Zinc Pyrithione (ZPT) is recognized as an antifungal and antibacterial agent commonly employed in biomedical research to explore metal ion homeostasis disruption ZPT exerts its biological activities primarily by facilitating intracellular copper ion transport leading to altered copper metabolism and subsequent induction of cuproptosis a recently identified cell death mechanism Studies demonstrate ZPT-induced cuproptosis is dependent on intracellular copper accumulation thus making it a relevant research tool in oncology particularly in investigating tumor biology of copper-dependent malignancies such as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) In TNBC cell culture models reported IC50 values for ZPT-induced cytotoxicity typically range between approximately 1 to 5 M supporting its applicability in laboratory investigations focusing on metal-dependent cell death pathways
